A row of poplars lines the riverbank as it winds through the valley. The state of these trees tells us a lot about the time of year. They are imposing, even when leafless. Today [below] they are getting greener by the day.
In winter [above] their silver branches point up into the cold blue sky. Three weeks ago [below] there was a faint sheen of red about them as their leaves began to open.
